Should you cut carbs fat in order to lose fat ?

The answer is yes and no.

People think they should cut carbs because when they do they end up cutting calories, and if you are in a caloric deficit you will lose weight. What also happens is you drop water that carbs normally hold on to which gives the illusion of losing a ton of body fat. However, most of this is just bodyweight and it doesn’t mean that only cutting carbs will cause you to lose fat.

Carbs are an energy source that fuel high-intensity activity such as exercise and when you do cut carbs you will lose weight as a function of consuming less total calories during the day. What you will notice as your diet continues after slashing carbs too low is that you will lose energy to fuel your workouts in the gym and will also start to lose motivation to train.

Training intensely is what will keep your fat loss going over the long term and give you better results. You don’t want to be a smaller, weaker version of yourself at the conclusion of your diet.

So will cutting carbs help you to lose fat ? Yes. Are carbs the only macronutrient that you should cut when trying to lose body fat? No .

Carbs can be cut as a means to lower overall calories because as we’ve talked about before, a caloric deficit and exercise are the driving forces behind fat loss. You should aim to keep has many carbohydrates as you can provided your level of activity can afford them .

Remember that you can also lower your protein and fats as well because they all play a roll into total calories and can all be used to facilitate the caloric deficit.

So should you cut carbs ? You can provided you can maintain your performance in the gym and keep your calories in the deficit, but if you find that your performance decreases then you should look into bumping them back up and creating a deficit by way of another macronutrient.
