[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_facebook type=”standard”][vc_tweetmeme type=”horizontal”][vc_column_text]Have you ever looked at someone who’s always lean and asked yourself “How can they eat that and still have abs?”

Most of us have been there, and by most I mean everyone who’s not them.

They come out with us, they eat the same junk, and yet they’re still ready for the beach.

What’s up with that?

The answer is what I call the Facebook Theory….

Does that sound cool? Or maybe the Facebook Law…

Anyways, the theory states (guess I’m going with theory) that, just like on facebook, we only see the highlight reels of other people. We don’t see all the other habits of these lean people that go on behind the scenes, just like how nobody posts photos of themselves crying or losing their job.

It’s in these behind the scenes habits which lie the secret to leanness.

Being someone who has been lean and was able to stay that way for awhile I can tell you this:

They eat until they’re 80% full, not stuffed

Lean people know when to stop eating. They stop when they’ve eaten enough to feed themselves and that’s it. The rest of us fall into the trap of “I HAVE to finish it” or “It won’t taste as good later”. We always want more, they know when they’ve had enough.

They do some form of physical activity every day or most days of the week

Lean people perform physical activity outside of the multiple times per week that they go to the gym while the rest of us avoid it. You know it.

They take the stairs, walk, and play recreational sports simply because they enjoy moving. Why do they enjoy moving? Because it’s easy for them. It’s easy for them because they move. The more they move the easier and more enjoyable movement becomes, weird huh?

All that extra movement adds up to a lot of calories.

They do some form of cardio

Lean people tend to do some sort of cardio pretty consistently whether it be going for a run or playing sports. A better aerobic system helps them with recovery and helps burn more fat. If you’re one of those people for which anything above 8 reps is cardio (give me props) you better consider upping your aerobic capacity.

They lift weights

You wanna be athletically lean, not skinny lean, and athletically lean people lift weights. Lifting weights builds muscle and improves storage of glucose aka carbs. People who have more muscle can eat more carbs before storing tons of fat. Remember that next time your lean friend eats all the fries.

They eat a lot infrequently

You may see them eat a lot when you’re out at the bar but the reality is that their weekly total calories might be lower than yours. The truth is average weekly calories matters and your progress is the sum of many good decisions, not one or two bad ones.

They eat to nourish, not just to be full

The majority of people eat to fill their tummies, not to actually nourish themselves, which is why people eat too many carbs and not enough protein. Leaner people eat more protein and fill themselves up with more vegetables and fruit. They also drink more water. All of these contribute to eating less calories overall and provide their bodies with vitamins, minerals, and hydration which are crucial for performance and a leaner body.

They’re okay with being hungry

You know what lowers your calories more than anything? Not eating. Leaner people are okay with being hungry sometimes and don’t see hunger as an “I’m DYINGGGG!” signal from their bodies. Hunger could be a thirst signal from your body, or psychological because you eat at that time every day, don’t let it control you. Ever have hunger pains that go away after you weren’t able to get food for awhile? What do you think happened? Did you die?

What does your “behind-the-scenes” look like?

Now that you know what it takes to be lean all the time you can ask yourself how much of that are you actually doing, CONSISTENTLY? My guess is probably not a lot of them, but no worries, now you know what you need to do. Start with one and slowly add these habits as you go. Trust me, you’ll be surprised.
