Do you need to do cardio to lose fat?

No .

Many people believe this because maybe it says it on the machines that there is a fat burning zone? Or maybe it’s just a no-planning-needed thing to do?

Now this isn’t to say that cardio will not help with fat loss, but it is to say that you don’t need it in order to burn fat.

Having an efficient aerobic system will help with training more intensely. This is because the aerobic system is responsible for replenishing your energy in between bouts of exercise and is also responsible for helping you recover in between training sessions.

The more effective your sets are, and the more effective your training sessions are, the more fat you will burn provided you are in a caloric deficit.

Training + Caloric Deficit = Fat Loss

So, do you need to do cardio to lose fat? No.

Can it help you? Absolutely.
